As I embark on my thesis project, I am excited to delve into the intersection of science and art, specifically how scientific illustrations can be a powerful tool for creating deeper engagement and enhancing the visitor experience in natural history museums. I will be collaborating with the World Museum, Liverpool, where I will make a series of illustrations that aim to inform and educate visitors about the incredible collections housed within the museum.

I visited the museum today to view the vertebrate collections and to explore the gallery space where some of the collection is displayed to the public. Along with Olivia, my external advisor, we identified areas of improvement in the natural history gallery and the clore learning space, discussing how the potential of adding in different visual elements might help improve the space.
Through this initial meeting, we discussed the types of illustrations that I could produce, brainstormed potential areas of natural history that may be of interest to the public, and then identified which species in the collection would benefit from being highlighted. I was able to construct a preliminary research question based on our conversation and put together a rough illustration list which I will refine and assign priority to. I am excited to see where this project takes me!

I'm thrilled about the potential impact of this project. By intertwining scientific illustrations with natural history exhibits, I hope to create a more inviting and thought-provoking space for all visitors at the World Museum.
